Wayne County backs Google data center project in Van Buren Township
The planned data center could drive thousands of construction jobs, workforce investment, infrastructure spending, and new tax revenue in Wayne County.
Wayne County commissioners have continued support for Google’s planned data center in Van Buren Township through an industrial facilities tax exemption and community benefits agreement.
The Detroit Regional Chamber says initial construction is projected to support roughly 4,200 annual jobs and about $40 million in direct skilled-trades wages. The project also includes a $10 million Energy Impact Fund for workforce training and $15.4 million in local infrastructure improvements, with the Chamber projecting about $25 million in net new Wayne County property-tax revenue over 13 years.
Why it matters for the region: Large digital-infrastructure projects can create direct construction work and longer-term demand for contractors, utilities, technical services, training providers, hospitality, and other businesses around the site.
