Detroit EV maker Grounded opens larger Southwest Detroit manufacturing facility
Grounded opened a new 50,000-square-foot Detroit facility after considering locations outside the city.
Detroit-based electric vehicle maker Grounded has opened a new 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on West Fort Street in Southwest Detroit.
The move dramatically expands the company’s production capacity and follows a $5 million seed round. City officials said Grounded expects to add 56 jobs over roughly the next two and a half years. The company had considered leaving Detroit before economic-development partners helped identify a larger site in the city.
Why it matters: Keeping a growing manufacturer in Detroit supports local jobs while strengthening the city’s mobility and advanced-manufacturing ecosystem. Growth companies like Grounded can also create opportunities for suppliers, service firms, skilled trades, and workforce partners.
