Greektown businesses look toward a rebound as $20M redesign nears completion
A major streetscape project in Greektown is nearing completion, with business owners pointing to reopened streets, wider sidewalks, and new patio space.
Greektown’s roughly $20 million redesign is nearing completion after years of planning and construction.
Business owners say the reopening of Brush Street and improvements such as wider sidewalks, new patio areas, and a refreshed streetscape are beginning to restore activity in the district. The work is intended to make Greektown easier to walk, gather, dine, and visit while supporting one of downtown Detroit’s best-known commercial corridors.
Why it matters for businesses: Streetscape projects can be painful during construction, but the long-term payoff can include higher pedestrian traffic, more outdoor commerce, and a stronger destination identity for restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.
